Aloo poori is spicy potato gravy served with delicious deep fried puffed poori's. It is a popular north Indian breakfast recipe. It is a lovely curry recipe with beautiful flavors of Indian spices.

We all have become diet conscious nowadays ,walking is part of our daily lives. This scrumptious "aloo poori" is motivation for most of us. We want to have it on every Sunday morning for breakfast or brunch that's why "it has to be delicious". It taste best with boondi raita and special mooli vegetable salad. Aloo Poori/Puri with raita,salad and mint chutney

Let's start with a recipe now :

Recipe type - Breakfast, lunch
Cuisine - Indian

Ingredients :
For the aloo sabji (potato vegetable) : serves 4
  • 5 medium size potatoes (aloo) : boiled, peeled and mashed
  • 3 garlic cloves (lasan) : according to the taste 
  • 6 tomatoes (tamatar) : crushed/grated
  • 1 green chilli (hair mirch) : chopped 
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric (haldi)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder (dhaniya powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder (lal mirch) 
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 3 cups water
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing (dhaniya )
Ingredients for Puri : 20 Puri's

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour/ wheat flour (atta or maida)
  • Water to knead flour
  • 1 tablespoon Carom seed ( ajwain)
  • 1/2 tablespoon Salt
  • Oil

Instructions to make aloo sabji :
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add cumin seeds (jeera) and asafoetida (heeng)
  • Sauté them until they turn brown
  • Crush tomato with garlic and green chillies (if you want to use grated tomato, chop garlic and green chilly and sauté them before putting tomato)
  • Add garam masala, coriander powder, chaat masala, chilly powder (optional), turmeric powder and stir until cooked
  • Put tomato purée 
  • Add mashed potato in the purée and mix well
  • Add 3 cups of water, put the lid and let it boiled on sim for 7 minutes
  • Once done garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving
  • Serve with hot poori's.
Instructions to make poori's 

  • Put wheat flour in a bowl, put carom seeds (ajwain) and salt.
  • Knead the wheat flour into a stiff dough with water and oil
  • Heat oil for deep frying
  • Make a round shape poori and deep fry it until it turns golden brown
  • Serve hot with aloo sabji, boondi raita,mint chutney and special mooli salad.
