Recipe of Vada Pav

How to make Vada Pav | Indian burger | Wada Pav

Vada Pav is popular Maharashtrian Indian street food. It is delicious and easy to make. Classic vada pav tastes great with some fried green chillies and a nice hot tea. You can put onion and tomato slices in it with cheese and can serve it as a burger too. It can be served for breakfast or lunch or for snacking.

Lets start with the recipe :

Ingredients :

  • 6 Pav (Small squares of white bread)
  • 6 medium size potatoes
    Vada Pav, Indian burger, Bombay vada pav, wada Pav
  • 1 cup besan (chickpeas/gram flour)
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • 4 green chillies (whole)
  • 4 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt

Preparation :
  1. Take a bowl, add besan and water in it
  2. Mix well, so that no lumps should form
  3. Consistency of the batter should be medium, it should not be too thick or too thin. Keep it aside.
  4. Boil potatoes, and mash them 
  5. Add salt, chaat masala, asafoetida, turmeric and pepper in it
  6. Add green chillies and garlic cloves in it, mix well
  7. Make 6 round balls of the mash potato mixture
  8. Heat oil in a pan, dip potato balls in besan (gram flour/chickpeas flour) batter
  9. Deep fry them from both the sides until they turn golden
  10. Take them out on oil absorbing paper or a tissue
  11. After deep frying all the vada's, deep fry whole green chillies
  12. Add salt and chaat masala on the fried green chillies and keep it aside
  13. Take a pav, cut it from middle and place vada in it
  14. Add some mint chutney and ketchup in it
  15. Serve hot with fried green chillies and tea or coffee
Note :

  • You can also toast pav on the tawa from both the sides, if you like it hot
  • To make it healthy, you can add beans, carrots etc in the potato mixture
  • You can also shallow fry the vadas

    Your recipe is also very good, as comes under fast to cook, good to eat, my recipe of vada pav is lengthy.
    You know I am the craziest fan of vada pav, and any food item which I love the most, I try to make it very delicious.
