Leftover kala chana and Rice cutlets

How to make cutlets from leftover Kala chana and rice

If you have leftover kala chana and chawal i.e. leftover cooked bengal gram and rice in the refrigerator. This is the best way to use it. You can turn them into a nice snack or a breakfast which everybody will relish. These cutlets/tikkis/pancakes are easy to make and best way to utilize leftover. It will give the nutrition of kala chana (Bangal gram) and is easy to cook too. The combination of flavors it has will melt in your mouth and you will enjoy each bite of it.

Lets start with the recipe :

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 bowl leftover or fresh kala chana /cooked Bengal gram 
  • 1/2 bowl leftover cooked rice or fresh cooked rice 
  • 2 boiled and mashed potatoes
  • 2 pieces of bread
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour
  • Salt according to taste 
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 chopped green chilly
  • Olive oil/refine oil

  1. Take a bowl and  add leftover Kala chana (Bengal gram) and rice in it
  2. Add green chilly and mashed potatoes and mix well
  3. Add broken crumbled bread in the mixture of kala chana and rice
  4. Add cornflour, salt, chaat masala, pepper in it
  5. Mix it well and form a dough
  6. Divide it into 8 portions
  7. Make round balls like cutlets
  8. Take a pan and 1 tablespoon of oil  
  9. Add cutlet balls in a pan
  10. Cook on medium flame
  11. When they turn golden brown from both the sides, they are done
  12. Serve hot with tomato Ketchup or mint chutney

Note : 
  • Kala chana should be soft enough so that it can be mashed properly
  • You can use leftover or fresh kala chana and rice in it
  • Don't overcook the cutlets or they can burn
  • You can use whole wheat or any bread
