How to make Black chickpeas curry

Kale chana curry is made of small black chickpeas cooked in onion and tomato based gravy with flavorful and aromatic Indian spices. It is a rich and delicious curry which is perfect for dunking your bread into. It is simple and most satisfying dish. It is a great side dish with Indian flatbread. It is an authentic black chickpeas curry(kala chana curry) spiced up with exotic spices. It is delicious and flavorful. Kala chana curry is a hearty protein pack dish.It is healthy and easy to make. It is a spicy tasty black chickpeas curry with fresh spice blend. It is vegan and gluten free. This curry goes well with everything, rice or Indian flatbread etc. For making this special curry, I have cooked black chickpeas in masala gravy and have made it in punjabi style.



It is very filling and satisfying curry which can be served for lunch or dinner. It is a north Indian delicacy which you will find in most of the kitchen's in delhi.. It is vegan and gluten free. It is an aromatic fresh curry made from fresh ingredients. Once you will make it, it will become regular part of your menu.

Ingredients :
  • 1 cup Kala chana (Black chickpeas) 
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 finely chopped onions
  • 6 chopped garlic cloves (Optional)
  • 2 chopped green chillies (Optional)
  • 8 crushed Tomatoes
  • chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala 
  • 1/4 spoon red chilly powder (Optional)
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
Preparation :
Gravy for Rajma, Kidney Beans curry
  1. Wash, drain and Soak kala chana(black chickpeas) overnight in the water
  2. Take a pressure cooker, put kala chana(black chickpeas), water, salt and boil it until they are soft and mash-able with a spoon.
  3. Heat oil in a pan
  4. Add cumin seeds and wait till they splutter
  5. Add onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies
  6. Saute until onion turns light brown
  7. Add crushed tomato and cook for few mins on low flame
  8. Add salt, chopped coriander leaves, coriander powder, garam masala, chaat masala and chilly powder in it and mix well
  9. When they blend well together, add boiled kala chana(black chickpeas) with the water you have boiled them in.
  10. Cook it on medium flame
  11. If they are thick and gravy is less, add some water and cook on simmer for 10 minutes
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves
  13. Serve hot with rice
Note : 
  • Consistency of the gravy should be medium
  • You can add lemon if you want curry to be tangy
