How to make Strawberry Jam

Sometimes the easiest breakfast tastes the best. With this strawberry jam ready in your refrigerator, you can have a quick toast with fresh homemade strawberry jam. This is the easiest way to prepare delicious strawberry jam at home. The best part about it is it has no preservatives. You can spread it on a bread or a flatbread, or can have it as a sweet dish. Kids are very fond of this jam. You can pack roti with jam for their tiffin too. This strawberry jam is soft and scrumptious. Sterilizing of jar is an important step to get rid of bacteria before pouring the jam. You can refrigerate it.

Homemade Strawberry jam is best for quick breakfast, you can spread it on a toasted bread and can have it with a glass of chocolate milk. In jiffy, this is the most preferred breakfast combination for me. It is easy toprepare and with minimum preparation. If you have strawberries handy, you can make it anytime. You can add sugar according to your taste, if you like it sweeter, add more sugar.

Ingredients :

  • 250 grams strawberry / 18 medium sized strawberry
  • 1.5 cup powdered sugar / powdered Jaggery (according to taste)
  • 1 lemon
Preparation :
  1. Wash and rinse the strawberries
  2. Wipe them with a clean towel and hull them, remove the stem
  3. Chop them into small pieces 
  4. In a non-stick deep pan, add chopped strawberries, sugar/jaggery and lemon juice
  5. Cook them on a low flame and mash it with a potato masher 
  6. Stir often till strawberries are cooked and sugar is dissolved 
  7. Strawberry's will release some juices, let it cook
  8. Make sure that sugar is dissolved properly, bring it to boil and stir continuously 
  9. When the mixture will be thick and strawberry juice is dissolved properly, then you can check if it is done by taking it on a spoon and placing it on ice or a cold plate.
  10. If it sets properly like a gel, then it is done otherwise keep cooking 
  11. If done, keep it aside and let it cool down
  12. Pour it to a air tight container made of glass preferably
  13. You can refrigerate it

Notes :
  • You can adjust sugar/jaggery according to your taste
  • Sterilize jar before pouring (you can boil water in a container and add jar in it for few seconds and then take it out and keep it aside. Once it cools down, pour jam in it.
