How to make Spinach Fritters | Palak Pakora

Recipe of Palak Pakora | Spinach Fritters

Palak Pakoras are classic colorful delicious spinach fritters which are coated with gram flour and flavored with Indian Spices. They are very addictive. They are crispy and packed with flavor. They are filling and easy to prepare. You can serve it with the chutneys or tomato ketchup. These pakoras can be make in jiffy and can be done in 15 minutes. They can be served as party snack or a side dish.

They are crispy and crunchy from outside and soft from inside.  They are a good accompaniment for tea and perfect appetizer for a rainy day. They are vegan and gluten free.

Lets start with the recipe :

Ingredients : 
  • 1 cup Gram flour (besan)
  • Spinach leaves
  • 1 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • Salt according to taste
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon asafoetida 
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon pepper 
  • 1 teaspoon jeera powder (Cumin  powder)
  • Oil for deep frying
Preparation :
  1. Wash, rinse and drain spinach leaves(Palak) in running water
  2. Chop spinach and keep it aside
  3. Take besan (Gram flour) in a bowl
  4. Add salt, baking powder and chaat masala in the same
  5. Add water in it and mix the batter
  6. Batter should be of medium consistency (Not too thick and not too thin)
  7. In a bowl, add chopped spinach, carom seeds, salt, pepper, asafoetida, chaat masala and jeera powder and mix it well
  8. Heat oil in a shallow pan for deep frying
  9. When it is hot, dip chopped spinach with besan batter and drop it in the oil with the spoon 
  10. Keep the flame medium, and let it cook from both the sides
  11. When it turns golden from both the sides, take them out on a tissue paper or oil absorbent paper 
  12. Sprinkle some chaat masala on the top of pakodas
  13. Serve hot with Mint Chutneytamarind chutney or tomato ketchup.
