How to make Kadhai Paneer

Recipe of restaurant style Kadhai Paneer 

Kadhai Paneer is a delicious cottage cheese preparation cooked in onion tomato based gravy which is a popular dish of North India. Addition of bell pepper gives a beautiful flavor to the dish. It can be served with any Indian flatbread like parantha, roti, or naan. Kadhai Paneer also goes well with jeera rice or plain rice. It is a delightful dish for any special occasion or dinner.

I have made in rich onion tomato based gravy. This aromatic dish is full of flavours and aroma of Indian spices. The best part about this dish is that it is easy to make and delicious to eat. You will love this restaurant style Kadhai Paneer.

Ingredients :
  • 200 grams paneer  (cottage cheese) 
  • 1 chopped medium green bell pepper 
  • 1/2 chopped red and yellow bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 12 cashews
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 8 crushed tomatoes
  • 8 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 piece of grated ginger
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • Salt according to taste
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala 
  • 1/2 teaspoon kashmiri red chilly powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 cube of butter
  • Oil 
Preparation for gravy :

  1. Soak cashews in the water for few minutes, drain it and grind it in a fine paste
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, 
  3. When it splutter, add cloves, cashew paste and asafoetida in it
  4. Add chopped garlic, onion, ginger and green chillies in it
  5. When onions turn light brown, add bell peppers in it
  6. When it is cooked, add crushed tomato
  7. Add coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, red chilly powder, pepper and salt
  8. Mix well and let it cool down
  9. Blend the whole tadka (mixture) in blender
  10. Mix well and add cream and butter in the mixture
  11. Cook for few more minutes and it is done
  12. Cut paneer into small cubes (approx 1 inch) 
  13. Add it in the gravy and cook for 2 minutes
  14. Serve hot with Indian flatbread or rice
