How to make Veggie Porridge | Broken Wheat Upma

Recipe of Veggie Porridge | Broken Wheat Upma 

Veggie Porridge or broken wheat upma is a wholesome, healthy and nutritious breakfast or lunch. It is delicious and easy to make savory porridge. It is a perfect one pot meal which is loaded with vegetables.Different vegetables makes it colorful and delightful.

The best part about it is that it is high in nutrition and low in calories. It can be served as a standalone dish, or with Mint Chutney.

Lets start with the recipe :

Ingredients :
  • 2 cups broken wheat
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds (sarso)
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (heeng) 
  • 10 curry leaves (kadhi patta)
  • 2 dry red chilly
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 3 chopped carrots
  • 2 chopped capsicum
  • 1 cup chopped beans
  • 4 chopped onions
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 lemon (according to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon refine oil/olive oil
Preparation :
  • Roast broken wheat/daliya/porridge in a pan for few minutes on low flame and keep it aside
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and asafoetida (heeng) 
  • When it splutter, add peanuts and roast it 
  • Add onions, curry leaves and red dry chilly in it
  • When onion turns light brown, add carrot, bell pepper,and beans in it
  • Cook on low flame, then cover with a lid, till the vegetables cook properly
  • Add salt, chaat masala, pepper and mix it
  • In another pan, where you roasted oats, add 2 cups of water
  • When water starts boiling, stir it until it absorbs all the water
  • Add veggies and lemon juice in it and mix well
  • Serve hot broken wheat upma immediately with pickle or mint chutney

Note : 
  • Serve broken wheat upma immediately otherwise it will become sticky
