How to make Yellow Rice

Recipe of Fragrant Yellow Rice

Yellow Rice is simple and delicious fragrant rice cooked in traditional Indian spices with the tadka of onion garlic. It is a perfect one pot meal. It is quick, and flavorful. It is easy to cook and healthy. Yellow rice is rich aromatic rice which can be quickly made in jiffy. It is a comforting rice which goes well with any curry dish. It tastes great with a a bowl of raita, pickle and papad.

The best part about it is that it is very easy to make and filling. It is packed with spices and flavor. It is best for lunch boxes and relished by kids too.

Lets start with the recipe :

Ingredients :
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 1 chopped potato 
  • 1/3 cup chopped paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 8 chopped cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cloves/laung
  • Salt according to taste
  • Oil
Preparation :
  • Soak rice in water for 30 minutes
  • In a pressure cooker, pour 1 tablespoon of oil and add cumin seeds, cloves, garlic, ginger and green chillies
  • Add onion and let it cook until it turn golden brown
  • Add turmeric, garam masala, coriander powder, pepper and salt and stir
  • Add potato and cottage cheese in it
  • Add rice and 2 1/2 cup of water (as required)
  • Let it cook till two whistle and then turn off the flame
  • Let it cool down until pressure inside cooker comes down naturally
  • Serve hot with raita, pickle and papad
